 "Would you rather?"
Listen to what we decided.
Our Flipgrid was shared with Ormond School and they have added their responses and replied to some of us as well.

Real or Fake?

Today we were deciding if images that were found online were real or fake.
We then created our own media of an image
to show our life at Matawai School.
Do you believe this is what we do at our school?

Using the Science Procedure

We have been learning to use the Scientific Procedure to record our findings. Here is what we found out from our reading about catching mustelids.

Leaf Observations

In science we have been making close observations of leaves. We put our leaves in a jar of water like scientists in ancient times did. Water acts like a magnifying glass.
We gathered a lot of data and recorded it on a chart to share.

Fun with Fractions

Fun with Fractions

We are finding using a number line is really helping our understanding of fractions. It helps us see that fractions are numbers that sit between the whole numbers. It helps us better image the size of the fraction and recognise equivalent fractions. Sometimes we work in teams and race each other to place a fraction. We have to collaborate and be able to back up our decisions. We seem to be happy in our learning.😁

We used the Remove Background site to enhance our action selfies.
Here are some before and after photos to show how effective the tool is in removing backgrounds.
Visit the student's blogs to see their action selfies.

Action Selfies

Today we were learning how to use the Remove Background online tool with an action selfie
we took using our camera app on our Chromebooks.
We had to find the app launcher key and open the camera.
We removed the background and placed it on a background to show something we like to do in Matawai.
Do you know where Matawai is?
Here is some of our work. You can also see the student's work on their blogs.
What do you like to do at your place?

Matariki-Matawai style

To celebrate Matariki we thought about growing food. Garlic is traditionally planted on the shortest day so that's what we did.

We read stories about Matariki and named the seven stars.

Frosty Start

Matawai- Where the hills are high and the frost is magnificent.

Frost!
All night the spiders wove.
With dewy vines hanging down
from the tree their web sits in.
We calve handprints on the tops of tables.
Plus our fingers go numb because of the bleakness.
The webs of spiders add to trees with their beauty!
Also the drop on flocks as white as goats.

Isabel

Frozen water fountains with ice blocking the water.
Spider webs hanging down like fishing lines.
Leaves with ice coats growing on them.
A light layer of ice on the outside tables.
One bit of plastic was covered in a little layers of white ice.
Spider webs with condensation on them, like wet wool.
Puddles were frozen with thick layers of ice.
Plants had light ice on them.
One frozen sock that was left outside.
Lots of spider webs with condensation.

Images Labelled for Reuse

This week we were learning about only using images that are labelled for reuse.

Images on the internet are under copyright and we should only use images we have permission to use.

In Google Slides we can use the Explore Tool to search for images.
Any images found this way are labelled for reuse.

Here is Blair's work from today. He had to search for 3 images.
Where were you born?
What is your favourite place to visit?
Where place would you like to visit?

Cybersmart Collage

Our Cybersmart learning this week was about writing our own Kawa of Care for Room 3.
We had to make 4 shapes on a collage in Google Drawing and insert text in each shape.
Iris has designed her collage so that the text can be read easily.
Do you like the colours she has used?
It is called "custom gradient fill".
Ka mau te wehi Iris!

Kawa of Care

This term we are learning about caring for our devices.
Some students in Room 3 own their own device and bring them to school to help them with their learning.
Lyem knows how to wear his protective case with his Chromebook inside it. He puts the strap over one shoulder and under the other arm so his hands are free to do all the other things he needs to do like carry his schoolbag.
Ka pai Lyem!

Manaiakalani Programme in Room 3

Every week Mrs Torrie comes to Room 3.
We are learning how to care for our devices this term in our Cybersmart work.
This week we showed how to use the "forklift hold" when we carry our devices around the class.
We have to hug and hold so we can see where we are walking as we move.
